My name is Jack Seiler, and I’ve spent the last six decades exploring the wilder corners of the map. With over 60 years of backpacking and hiking experience, I don't just look at topographical lines—I remember the effort of the climb and the clarity of the summit.
Trail & Timbercraft was born from a desire to translate those miles into something tangible. By combining precision LiDAR data with premium hardwoods, I create artifacts that allow you to bring a piece of the trail home. Whether it's a "Hidden Gem" like Franklin Gulf or a bucket-list summit, each carve is an archive of the landscape I’ve spent a lifetime admiring.
Establishing Sovereignty Today marks a pivotal transition for Trail & Timbercraft. We have officially moved beyond the trial phase, establishing a dedicated digital home and a sovereign brand identity. This isn't just a change in name; it's a commitment to professional-grade craftsmanship that honors the rugged detail of the landscapes we love.
The 1-Meter Milestone Our proudest technical accomplishment this year has been the successful integration of 1-meter resolution LiDAR data into our CNC workflow. By moving away from standard, "smoothed-over" topographical maps, we are now able to capture the surgical precision of the terrain—the specific ravines of Zoar Valley and the sharp ridges of the Adirondacks—in a way that feels like a 3D archive of the Earth itself.
The "Hidden Gems" Initiative We are currently deep into our "Hidden Gems of WNY" project. We’ve begun mapping and carving localized trail systems like Sprague Brook and Franklin Gulf—areas that are often overlooked by mass-produced map makers. Bringing these "backyard" sanctuaries to life in premium Black Walnut is at the core of what we do.
The Path Forward As I prepare for the physical challenge of the Salkantay trail in Peru this May, the business is on a parallel track: constant elevation. Every carve we produce today is a testament to 60 years of trail-wisdom meeting 21st-century precision. We aren't just making maps; we're making artifacts for those who know that the best views are earned, not given.
